James River Project (2024-Present)
This ongoing series of photos is an exploration of how we treat our environment. Richmond, Virginia (Where this project takes place) is heavily connected to the James River, we use it for all sorts of purposes to sustain daily needs as well as recreation. Yet, we have not returned to the river what it has given to us. Pollution, Deforestation around the river, and private land ownership are just some of the problems affecting the James, I believe all people are deserving of a clean water source to access and should take advantage of the outdoors, with respect of course. That being said I hope to illustrate that the James is not an ecosystem that can last forever with us in the way and we need to protect it in order to keep using it. Humans in many ways come from the water and without a deliberate climate effort, we very well may return.
This series will be shot using a various array of photographic technology from digital to 35mm film, and all the way up to 4x5 Large format Film. As film is a process involving chemicals and waste I will try to be ever mindful of the impact that analogue photography has on our environment.
